Thanks to the Law on Amendments to the Law of Ukraine "On the Unified State Demographic Register and documents confirming the citizenship of Ukraine, identity or its special status," adopted by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on March 30, 2021, digital documents (e-passports) in the mobile application of Diya Portal at the legislative level, from August 23, 2021, are becoming a full-fledged analogue of a paper and plastic identity document.
E-passport is a digital biometric passport and ID-card of a citizen of Ukraine in the mobile application of Diya Portal. For now about 5 million citizens use electronic passports through Diya application. This news is quite useful and important both for those citizens who already use the application and for citizens who plan to do this in the nearest future, but are waiting for this solution at the legislative level.
The changes adopted by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine will greatly simplify the everyday life of citizens, since it is no longer necessary to take paper documents with you. Digital passports will be valid throughout the territory of Ukraine (except the cases of entring into and from the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine). The citizens will be able to use digital passports at the Center for the Provision of Administrative Services when ordering services, in notary bodies when performing notarial actions, in court while considering court cases, in postal services when receiving mail, in banking institutions when carrying out cash transactions, as well as in other bodies when ordering and receiving services. In addition, digital passports will be accepted during business trips and tourist trips when checking into hotels, traveling on trains, as well as when flying by plane.
Unfortunately, this Law does not provide with the possibility of using digital passports while crossing the state border, but the start of large-scale digitalization in the State has begun, so there is confidence that this issue will be gradually resolved at the legislative level.
